چکیده

MANY properties of proteins have been ascribed to adsorption phenomena and surface effects-grouped under the name of colloidal properties. Loeb [1922] and others have shown that many properties of proteins may be explained by the orthodox laws of chemical combination. In this paper an attempt is made to explain the effect of proteins on phthalein dyes as a chemical phenomenon. The interesting observation was made by Rosenthal [1926] that when a small amount of protein has been added to a dilute rose bengal solution the deep pink colour is not discharged as usual when the solution is acidified. This he ascribes'to the fact that the dye behaves as though it were not in solution. It was. thought that this observation deserved further attention and it was found that if the colour of a dilute rose bengal solution were discharged by acidification with hydrochloric acid and then a small amount of protein were added and the solution warmed, a rose-red colour soon developed. The combination of protein and dye resulted in colour change, so that the simple explanation of the dye behaving as though it were not in solution is hardly accurate since'the same colour is obtained when the dye is undoubtedly in solution and already decolorised. The reaction between the protein and acidified dye proceeds very slowly in the cold, probably because an intramolecular change takes place as will be shown later. The question arose as to whether rose bengal (tetraiodotetrachlorofluorescein) was unique in its behaviour or whether all fluorescein and phenolphthalein derivatives behaved similarly. The first dyes examined fell into two classes:

Liver Function as Influenced by the Ductless Glands

When phenoltetrachlorphthalein is injected intravenously, it is eliminated from the body in the bile through the activity of the hepatic epithelium. The feces may be collected after purgation and the phthalein extracted and estimated against a standard solution. The estimation of phthalein can be done with accuracy in a suitable colorimeter and the elimination in normal dogs is quite constant. ...

Study of Photooxidative Degradation of Reactive Dyes from Aqueous Solutions by UV/ C102 Process

The color removal of three reactive dyes in an aquatic system without priortreatment was studied. Selected commercial dyes were treated with NaC102 andUV as oxidation agents. Effects of nature of oxidant, temperature, pH ofsolutions, concentration of C107—, contact time of C102— and UV irradiation wereinvestigated. Optimal C102— concentration for color removal in the absence of UVirradiation wa...

The Mechanism of Vital Staining with Basic Dyes

1. Solutions containing NH(4)OH and NaOH, and CO(2) and HCl may be used to produce various combinations of extracellular and intracellular reactions in starfish eggs, Gonionemus, and Nitella cells. 2. Staining by basic dyes is, with a constant intracellular reaction, favored by increased extracellular alkalinity. With a constant extracellular reaction, staining is hindered by increased intracel...

Treatment of Synthetic Textile Wastewater by Combination of Coagulation/Flocculation Process and Electron Beam Irradiation

Introduction: Textile wastewaters from dyeing and finishing processes are heavily polluted with dyes, textile auxiliaries and chemicals and have a broad range of pH, high COD concentration and suspended particles. In this study, the efficiency of color and turbidity removal from synthetic textile wastewater samples were investigated by combined process of coagulation/ flocculation and electron ...

The study and recognition of artistic dyes in the Islamic period of Iran in writing and painting (Based on poetry of Khorasanid style poets)

The main features of Iranian painting in the post-Islamic centuries are the association with Persian literature. Persian literature and Persian art have intrinsic links, since the artist and poet are based on the unit's vision, rooted in a culture and intellectual space, to create. The result of this poet's creation is a literary work, and this work can have all the features of the work of art....
